During childhood, there are some skin diseases which are common and specific to this age group. Currently, the most frequent conditions are acne, warts, atopic dermatitis, molluscum contagiosum and impetigo.
Each disease requires a specific treatment and children may receive a different treatment to adults. It is necessary to evaluate each case in order to prescribe a simple, safe treatment which is suitable for young patients.
The most frequent disease during childhood is atopic dermatitis, which causes the skin’s natural sebum to be synthesized, and inflammations, eczema and itchiness appear due to the dehydration of the skin. These are usually treated with specific skin care and topical creams, although more serious cases may require oral drug treatment.
