{"id":1271,"date":"2017-03-06T09:58:27","date_gmt":"2017-03-06T09:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/garces-wp.ixole.es\/?page_id=1271\/"},"modified":"2017-03-22T11:37:58","modified_gmt":"2017-03-22T11:37:58","slug":"melanoma-diagnosis","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/garces-wp.ixole.es\/en\/cutaneous-screening-and-melanoma-diagnosis\/melanoma-diagnosis\/","title":{"rendered":"Melanoma Diagnosis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p>In their initial stages, <strong>melanomas<\/strong> have a very similar appearance to <strong>nevi or moles<\/strong>, which is why it is very important to inform your dermatologist if you notice any new moles or detect any changes in the color, size or volume of the ones you already have.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Risk Factors<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is especially important to have regular check-ups if there are prior risk factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Having more than 50 nevi on the body;<\/li>\n<li>Having family members who have had melanoma or skin cancer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Changes which Might Suggest a Malignancy <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A &#8211; Asymmetry:<\/strong> Does the lesion or growth have an irregular, asymmetrical shape?<\/p>\n<p><strong>B \u2013 Borders:<\/strong> Are the edges irregular or notched?<\/p>\n<p><strong>C \u2013 Color:<\/strong> What color is it? Are there two or more shades of color?<\/p>\n<p><strong>D \u2013 Diameter:<\/strong> Does it measure 6 mm or more?<\/p>\n<p><strong>E \u2013 Evolution:<\/strong> Has the growth changed over the past few weeks (color, size, shape, etc.)?<\/p>\n<p>If the answer to any of these questions is yes, we recommend you make an appointment with a dermatologist to have a precise and professional examination.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Diagnosis<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To diagnose the possible presence of melanoma with the utmost precision, a <a href=\"https:\/\/garces-wp.ixole.es\/en\/cutaneous-screening-and-melanoma-diagnosis\/\"><strong>cutaneous screening<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will be performed using <a href=\"https:\/\/garces-wp.ixole.es\/en\/cutaneous-screening-and-melanoma-diagnosis\/digital-dermatoscopy\/\"><strong>epiluminescence dermatoscopy<\/strong><\/a>.
