[vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”1854″ img_size=”full”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]The Sexually Transmitted Diseases Unit<\/strong> at the Institut de Dermatologia Garc\u00e9s, led by Dr. Alba Catal\u00e0<\/a>, is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of all the infections and diseases which are contracted and transmitted through sexual activity.<\/p>\n

These diseases are caused by bacteria or viruses and, in some cases, by fungi. To minimize the risk of contracting any of these diseases, it is important to maintain adequate intimate hygiene and to use protective mechanisms during sexual relations. It is also important to bear in mind that one of the main causes of the transmission of these diseases is the fact that a person is unaware that they are infected, as in many cases there are no symptoms and they are difficult to detect.<\/p>\n

The Unit practices a multidisciplinary approach and collaborates with specialists in Urology, Proctology, Gynecology, Internal Medicine and other related branches of medicine.<\/p>\n

Although most sexually transmitted diseases are easy to cure if they are detected in time, they can become dangerous if they go untreated and cause serious health problems.
